Youth Empowerment Shelter has been in active operation for about three months now. Residents have come from a variety of different sources, some from under a bridge, some are passing through the area, some have just walked away from home, some have been referred from other service agencies in the area, and some have been directed to us by their parents seeking a safe respite option. Regardless of their pathway to the shelter, one thing has been consistent, and that is the enthusiastic, active support and participation from service partners in the area. The schools, transportation providers, DHS Child Welfare, Wasco County Youth Services, Columbia Gorge Center for Living, medical and dental service providers, and others have come forward to provide care and support to the shelter residents. Some of these are even helping to contribute to the expenses of the shelter, most of which go to provide the staffing needed for 24/7 care. We are truly experiencing the reality of the village participation. THANK YOU! I know we will all benefit from it in the long run.
